Effect of Seed Priming on Germination and Seedling Parameters of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) in Lamjung, Nepal.

Poor seed germination obstructs the early and uniform seedling emergence at sub-optimal conditions which can be a major setback to spring cucumber growers. Different priming methods ought efficient solutions for problem. To standardize best method, an experiment was laid out in Completely randomized design Horticulture lab of IAAS, Lamjung Campus. The treatment consisted demineralized distilled water (hydropriming), hormonal (GA3 100ppm GA3 200 ppm), halopriming (NaCl 0.5% KNO3 0.5%), non-primed seeds as control. were soaked respective 24 hours then dried initial moisture content under shade conditions. Observation recorded significantly highest percentage (19.25%) hydro (19.25%). lowest mean time found (4.19days) par with 200ppm (4.33days) (4.48days). energy (39.58) followed by (33.65) dry weight hydropriming (0.0252g) (0.0250g) whereas root length observed (12.955cm) is statistically (11.42cm), ppm (10.872cm) NaCl (10.42cm). plumule (13.00cm) (11.25cm). All primed showed increased vigor compared unprimed seeds. study that applied notably characteristics stand.
